The cast and the crew of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, shed the rustic skin and dazzled on the red carpet at the premiere of the film in Los Angeles on Dec. 2.

Peter Jackson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Armitrage, Luke Evans, Martin Freeman, Orlando Bloom, Stephen Fry, Evangeline Lilly, and most of the cast and crew were in attendance at the premiere. Ian McKellen, who plays the key role of Gandalf in the film, seemed to have missed at the event.

While most of the male cast members looked sharp in black or grey tuxedos and suits, Fry and Lilly stood out. Fry spiced things up with a colorful floral print tie and Lilly wore a beautiful flowy, sequined chiffon dress.

In the Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo and his troop of dwarfs head toward the Lonely Mountain to reclaim their homeland while Oakenshield encourages them to fight Smaug the Dragon. Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) plays a key role in the film and the character will be reprised in the next installment, There and Back Again. Legolas will also be featured in the last film of the trilogy, but the nature of his role, which could just be a cameo, has not been confirmed.

Filming for The Hobbit: There and Back Again is currently underway.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters Dec. 13. The Hobbit: There and Back Again is scheduled for release on July 18, 2014.
