With the fifth season of Community just weeks away, many spoilers have been released about the first few episodes, including the two-episode premiere.

NBC released a synopsis for the first two episodes of the season, which will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on NBC. The premiere episode, titled Repiloting, features Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) returning to Greendale Community College to help one of his former law partners in order to help gather evidence for a lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) brings the study group together again. In the second episode of season 5, titled Introduction to Teaching, Jeff becomes a professor at Greendale and is coached by Professor Hickey (guest star Jonathan Banks). Elsewhere, Abed (Danny Pudi) manages to convince the study group to take a class on actor Nicolas Cage.

NBC also released the first trailer for Community season 5. In true Community style, the trailer parodies classic movie trailers with Jeff having failed at his post-grad plans of revamping his lawyer career and making his triumphant return to Greendale, with footage of him teaching a group of kids.

The season will be a transitional one for the show, as season 1-4 cast member Chevy Chase (who played Pierce Hawthorne) has left the show. Additionally, Donald Glover (Troy) will only be appearing in five episodes before departing the sitcom.

Community season 5 premieres Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on NBC where it will air for the remainder of the spring 2014 TV season.
