In an interview with David Letterman on Monday, Dec. 9, Stephen Colbert revealed that he and his family will feature as a cameo in The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug.

While talking about his love of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchise, Cobert told Letterman that he landed a role in the film when he was visiting the set with his family in New Zealand.

"I'm kind of the breakout star of The Hobbit, Dave," Colbert said. "I don't want to tell anybody where I am, but I am in it."

The political satirist asked fans to stay alert while watching the film so that they didn't miss him.

"I and my wife and my two boys were invited down to New Zealand to play around with the folks in The Hobbit by Peter Jackson," he said. "We went down there, and we're in a scene in Laketown. I don't want to say where in the movie. It's kind of a 'Where's Waldo?'"

When Letterman asked him to prove his casting in the film, Colbert confirmed the news by noting that his name is listed on the movie's IMDb page.
