The next season of Homeland might feature a new romance among two of the show's most significant characters.

In the dramatic season 3 finale, Carrie (Claire Danes) watched as the love of her life Brody (Damian Lewis) hanged for his crimes in Iran. However, she may be moving on to a new man when Homeland returns for season 4: Quinn (Rupert Friend).

In an interview with TVLine, Homeland showrunner Alex Gansa suggested that a Carrie-Quinn romance was possible for season 4.

"I think if there is romantic energy between them it's at a very nascent state," he said. "Carrie's emotions have been engaged elsewhere, so it's unclear how she feels about him. I think it's pretty clear how he feels about her. But whether Carrie Mathison is going to be emotionally available for a romantic entanglement is another question entirely."

With Carrie taking on her new job as Station Chief in Istanbul in season 4, she will get to pick her own team to go with her, according to Gansa.

"As she mentioned to Sen. Lockhart [Tracy Letts], she gets to choose her own people," Gansa explained. "So Quinn, Fara [Nazanin Boniadi] . . . Virgil [David Marciano] and possibly Max [Maury Sterling] may come along with her. We get to bring some of our familiar faces overseas."

Homeland Spoilers: Will Brody's Family Appear in Season 4?

Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will likely be involved in Carrie's team as well as he adjusts to his own new position as a private contractor.

Homeland season 4 premieres in 2014 on Showtime. The show will likely premiere in September, as it has for the past three seasons.
