The Vampire Diaries will reportedly have a new character named Luke enrolling in Whitmore College when the series returns next year.

The character is described as a "hottie," "handsome" and "sarcastic," by E! Online. The new addition will also have a sister on campus. Luke will take his big brother duties to heart since he "will do (or sacrifice) anything to protect" her.

According to The Vampire Diaries wiki page, Luke will appear in the sixteenth episode of season 5. That would mean fans will have to wait for six episodes before they can see Luke when the show returns.

The new character will also reportedly be spending a lot of his time with vampire Caroline. But, this doesn't mean the two will form a romantic relationship since Luke is said to be gay.

Still, Caroline's unlucky love life will be a focus of season 5.

"That's kind of a joke in the 100th episode. When it comes out about Stefan and Katherine sleeping together, Caroline's like, 'What?! Why the heck am I the only one not getting any?'" Executive Producer Caroline Dries recently told TVLine. "Hopefully, we'll find her somebody new."

Cast member Ian Somerhalder also offered fans a little sneak peek of the upcoming episodes through new Instagram photosJudging by Somerhalder's photos, the second half of season 5 will probably feature a lot of blood.

In one shot, Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on the show, wears his vampire fangs as blood is smeared all over his mouth and nose. Some of it is even dripping on his neck.

"Season's Greetings from Damon The Red-Nosed Reindeer Ripper...," he captioned the shot.

The Vampire Diaries returns to the CW with its 100th episode on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
