Vin Diesel announced the new release date for Fast and the Furious 7 on Facebook Dec. 22, just short of a month after his former co-star and friend Paul Walker's death.

Sharing a picture of the last scene the two filmed together, Diesel added the message, "There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared....in the film we were now completing...the magic captured...and, in just how far we've come...Fast and Furious 7 will be released...April 10th 2015."

Diesel also revealed that Walker would have wanted his fans to know the news first. At time of publication, nearly 1 million people have "liked" the Facebook post and have shared it over 81,000 times.

Walker, 40, died in a fiery car crash in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Nov. 30.

Fast & Furious 7 had initially been slated for a July 11, 2014 release, but Universal Studios pushed back the date in light of Walker's passing.

Just days after the accident, executives initially shut down production on the film, and released the following statement:

"At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. Until then, we know [fans] join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend, Paul Walker."

Muc of the movie had already been shot by the time Walker died. Investigators are still trying to figure out what went wrong in the car crash that caused his death, and have said they are currently only looking at speed as a determining factor. They have already ruled out road conditions and debris as possible causes.
