Reality TV stars have been causing controversy since the invention of reality television, but the past few years have featured much more controversial comments than usual.

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson caused controversy in December after explaining his views on homosexuality, prompting A&E to remove him from the program.

Meanwhile, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville made racist remarks in a recent episode, saying that black people don't go in the water because it would ruin their weaves.

Controversy is not limited to just regular reality stars, however. Even reality TV contestants on competition shows have seen themselves under fire for controversial comments.

Aaryn Gries was stunned to see her racist jokes being taken seriously after getting out of the Big Brother house this summer. Similarly, Survivor: One World contestant Colton Cumbie made racist comments about a black contestant and further angered the public after quitting Survivor: Blood vs. Water this season.

Jersey Shore star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro went on a homophobic rant in 2010 aimed at a man wearing flip-flops.

Reality star Tila Tequila has been in the news recently after coming out as a supporter of Nazi dictator Adolf Hilter and bashing Jews.

Finally, two reality stars known for their sex tapes, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, have been a constant source of controversy for allegedly "being famous for being famous."
