Kristen Wiig has been tearing up the comedy film scene as of late, but the former Saturday Night Live comedienne isn't ready to box herself into just one genre.

Currently staring in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the 40-year-old actress explained to Moviefone that she chooses her projects based on what she connects with.

"I guess I don't really consciously think about the direction I'm going in as far as a thought-out strategy," Wiig said. "I kind of just go by and I read something that I connect with and that could be two scripts a year, it could be five or six. You never really know. I never set out and say, 'I want to do something dramatic.' It just sort of happens as the material comes in and I just try to be choosy."

Wiig will be taking on an even more dramatic role when The Skelaton Twins premieres at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014.

Now that she has completed her roles in multiple upcoming films -- such as Welcome to Me and How To Train Your Dragon 2 -- and several others currently in theaters, Wiig is considering trying directing in the near future.

"That's what I'd like to start focusing on later this year," she said. "Maybe something someone else has written. Maybe something I have written. I'm not sure. I'm starting to look at stuff now. But that's been an ambition for a long time."

Wiig can currently be seen in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Anchorman : The Legend Continues.
