Last week, Selena Gomez canceled her Asia and Australia tour saying, "I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."

At the time, speculation flew as to what, "I need to spend some time to myself," actually meant in the Pop world. Fans have seen so many of their heroes plagued with mental breakdowns and other concerns of that sort, but now it's being reported that Gomez took the time off to deal with health issues related to Lupus.

According to Pop Dust, sources close to the "Slow Down" singer are saying that she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease a couple of years ago and has been suffering with the symptoms since.

"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her lupus is really catching up with her right now," one source said.

Lupus is described as an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. This results in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs. Also, women are diagnosed with lupus nine times more often than men.

On Dec. 19, an insider for E! News was quoted as saying, "Selena is OK. She just realized it was time to take a break for herself. She's been working non-stop for six years."

Although there is no cure for Lupus, Gomez fans should be grateful that the pop star seems to be taking the proper precautions to minimize her risks.
