Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan recently explained his preliminary plans for the show's upcoming spinoff Better Call Saul in a new interview.

Very little is known about Better Call Saul, the spinoff prequel starring the colorful lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). Gilligan is still in the planning stages with fellow executive producer Peter Gould, but he revealed some new info to Entertainment Weekly this week.

"We think, by and large, this show will be a prequel, but the wonderful thing about the fractured chronology we employed on Breaking Bad for many years is the audience will not be thrown by us jumping around in time," Gilligan explained. "So it's possible that we may indeed do that, and we'll see the past and perhaps the future."

Gilligan also addressed the fact that it will be difficult to create drama for Saul considering how happy he is on a regular basis.

"Nothing is written in stone yet, we're still figuring it out, but the thing we realize is tricky with the character is that Saul Goodman is very comfortable in his own skin," Gilligan said. "He seems to be a character who is pretty happy with himself, especially when we first meet him. He seems to be a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, and that makes him everything that Walter White [Bryan Cranston] is not."

Breaking Bad Spinoff: Saul Goodman Series to be a Courtroom Drama?

Gilligan said that viewers should likely expect some Breaking Bad characters to appear in Better Call Saul, particularly Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), who was Saul's private investigator in Breaking Bad. He added that it will be more difficult to pin down the various actors who appeared in Breaking Bad over the years as many of them have taken on new roles.
