Lorde opened up about pop music, her image and how she writes music in a recent interview with the The New York Times,

"I'm a pop princess at heart," the Royals singer said. "Pop is about distilling what you want to say and making it easy. And the way I write isn't about making things easy. It's a weird juxtaposition."

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, also pointed out that she does not like to be referred to as a "teen hottie." In fact, the term makes her nauseous. She explained, "The phrase 'teen hottie' literally wants to make me throw up."

The New Zealand native prefers to stay true to her image regardless of publicity and a giant wad of cash.

"I would like to think that my public persona comes naturally to me and isn't that dissimilar to my real way of doing things," Lorde said. "I've turned down easily tens of millions of dollars doing what I do and saying no to things that I think are corny."

The 17-year-old talked about her take on sexuality and nudity in December with V Magazine. Though she has no problem taking off her clothes, she told the publication it has nothing to do with her music.

"People like to paint me in a certain way, but I'm a hugely sex-positive person and I have nothing against anyone getting naked," Lorde said. "For me personally I just don't think it would complement my music in any way or help me tell a story any better. It's not like I have a problem dancing around in my undies- I think you can use that stuff in a hugely powerful way. It just hasn't felt necessary for me."
