As fans wait for The Vampire Diaries to return to the CW at the end of January, below is a list of several spoilers fans can expect.

New "Hottie" in Whitmore?

The Vampire Diaries will reportedly have a new character named Luke enrolling in Whitmore College when the series returns.

The character is described as a "hottie," "handsome" and "sarcastic," by E! Online. The new addition will also have a sister on campus and Luke will take his big brother duties to heart since he "will do (or sacrifice) anything to protect" her.

According to The Vampire Diaries wiki page, Luke will appear in the sixteenth episode of season 5. That would mean fans will have to wait for six episodes before they can see the new character when the show returns.

Tyler Lockwood Coming Back?

Michael Trevino's character, Tyler Lockwood, may have left town in season 5 of The Vampire Diaries, but it seems he's coming back.

In a behind-the-scenes photo recently posted by his costar Rick Cosnett on Twitter, Trevino appears in the background.

"Feeling the love @CandiceAccola @iansomerhalder So great to work with u -u genius mofos #photobomb @Michael_Trevino," Cosnett, who plays Dr. Wes Maxfield, wrote as the caption.

Tyler's return to Lockwood could mean that he might rekindle his relationship with Caroline Forbes (Accola), whom he broke up with during the first half of season 5 to pursue revenge against his enemy Klaus.

Stefan and Caroline Kiss?

The two may share their first kiss when The Vampire Diaries returns since E! Online included the pair in a list of the 10 TV couples that may ignite a romance.

"We just found out that one of the hottest could-be couples on TV-a pairing with a decidedly devout 'shipper' following--is finally going to lock lips for the very first time, and it is filling our Grinchy-sized hearts with so much glee," the website wrote. "It is a first kiss. And it is epic."

Back in season 1, Caroline did feel an attraction for Stefan, but he rejected her. In season 5, however, fans began to suspect that their relationship may finally become a romantic one. While Stefan suffered from post-traumatic stress, Caroline was there to help him through the tough time.

Damon Salvatore And Lots Of Blood

Cast member Ian Somerhalder also offered fans a little sneak peek of the upcoming episodes through new Instagram photos. Judging by Somerhalder's photos, the second half of season 5 will probably feature a lot of blood.

In one shot, Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on the show, wears his vampire fangs as blood is smeared all over his mouth and nose. Some of it is even dripping down his neck.

"Season's Greetings from Damon The Red-Nosed Reindeer Ripper..." he captioned the shot.
