Robert Downey Jr. is thoroughly embed in Marvel Studios as the face of Iron Man, but the actor's pull may not be enough to help Mel Gibson land a role with the comic book franchise.

Star of Marvel's Phase Two Iron Man 3 and 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the man behind the cinematic version of Tony Stark is reportedly lobbying for the casting of Gibson and Jodie Foster for a future Avengers film, according to Radar Online.

"He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films, a source told the site. "It's been a longtime dream of Robert's to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he's achieved in recent years."

However, this could turn into a fairly futile attempt. While Foster could easily slot into a superhero-powered film at some point, Gibson seems like less of a viable option. Radar's source believes the actor's 2006 anti-Semitic comments may not serve to endear him to Marvel Studio's head honcho, Israeli-American businessman Avi Arad.
