A new clip for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, starring Chris Pine and Kevin Costner, shows a fight scene proving the lead character's skills in self-defense.

The scene from the action film shows CIA analyst Ryan (Pine) checking into a hotel suite where things appear calm and well. Chaos shortly after ensues when the man helping him pulls out a gun and attempts to shoot Ryan, leading into an intense fight scene.

As Ryan locks himself in the bathroom, the assassin fires through the walls and breaks down the door to shoot through the shower curtain. After opening the curtain, Ryan soars down from the ceiling and continues attempting to fight the man, while the gun continues to fire.

The man then falls and smacks his head on the sink, helping Ryan get control. Ryan eventually throws the man into the bathtub and fills it with water, holding the man down and drowning him.

This all leaves Ryan standing in shock and confusion.

He is then shown on a walk to see William Harper (Costner), who tells him the story about his first killing that involve a case where the woman turned out to be innocent. In an ironic twist on the film's tagline of "Trust no one," Harper tells Ryan in the clip, "You've got to pick somebody to trust."

The clip ends with a montage of more action scenes leading to Ryan's wife Cathy (Keira Knightley) finding out about her husband's secret life.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit hits theaters Jan. 17.
