Zoe Saldana signed on to play Rosemary Woodhouse in NBC's four-hour miniseries Rosemary's Baby.

Based on the 1967 novel by Ira Levin, Rosemary's Baby is a horror story about a woman who moves into a Paris apartment with her husband. After getting pregnant, she becomes suspicious of her husband and others having secretive and eerie motives of the future child, questioning where the child really came from and if there's something supernatural taking place.

Entertainment Weekly announced the news of Saldana's leading role Wednesday. There is currently no release date for the miniseries.

Rosemary's Baby became a film in 1968 starring Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes. Ruth Gordon, who played Minnie Castevet, won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. The film was directed by Roman Polanski, the visionary behind The Pianist, The Ninth Gate and The Fearless Vampire Killers. He was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.

The film also won for Best Foreign Actress, which went to Farrow. She won the David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actress as well as the Fotograma de Plata for Best Foreign Movie Performer.

The 1968 film took place in New York City while the NBC version will take place in Europe. This version will be directed by Agnieszka Holland (Treme). Scott Abbott (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge) and James Wong (The X-Files) are set to write the screenplay.

Saldana is most famously known for her role as Neytiri in Avatar. Her other credits include Colombiana, The Words and Star Trek. She will also be in Guardians of the Galaxy, coming out Aug. 1, 2014.
