Though Amazing Spider-Man 2 is confirmed to have only three villains. However, other antagonists from the comic book series may star in future installments of the franchise.

The Daily Bugle Tumblr account is a spoiler site run by Sony Pictures bearing the name of the newspaper where Peter Parker worked. It mentioned on Jan. 9 another villain Marvel comic book fans are familiar with, stirring speculation that he may come to the big screen.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Feature Three Villains: Electro, Rhino & Green Goblin

An 'article' posted on the account talks about new cloning classes at Empire State University taught by Dr. Miles Warren, who Spider-Man followers know later becomes the Jackal. The story featured multiple clones of Peter Parker all were created by Warren. Even more ominous in the comics, Warren cloned Peter's first love Gwen Stacy after her death at the hands of the Green Goblin.

The Jackal is the main antagonist of the 1990s story arc the Clone Saga, as well as the 2011 storyline, Spider-Island.

Gwen Stacy's Fate in Amazing Spider-Man 2 Revealed?

It is not confirmed if Gwen will be killed off in Spider-Man 2, which will introduce the Green Goblin character. Regardless, the quotes Warren gives in the fake article are telling about his potential role in a future film.

"Our responsibility is to educate our students and prepare them for life. For those who study genetics or biology, cloning will be a fact of life," he said. "We are cloning single-celled amoeba. Maybe one day we'll work our way up to mice. There is no ethical dilemma. Save your red flag for when I start cloning co-eds."

A movie starring the cloning doctor may require a starring role by lead actor Andrew Garfield. However, he previously hinted that he would not return beyond a third Spider-Man film.

"I mean I'm under contract for another one after this...as far as a fourth one? That's not anything to do with me," he said back in December.

If the teaser is potentially for a third movie it would serve as an interesting way to test Spidey as he potentially mourns Gwen's death if she in fact dies in the second film, and forms an attachment to Mary Jane Watson. The latter love interest, played by Shailene Woodley, was initially slated to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but was cut and will only appear in the third film.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will arrive in theaters May 2, 2014. Watch a preview below.
