The latest commercial featuring One Direction's Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson has them reminiscing about the days before they shot to fame.

The clip, released on YouTube Monday, Jan. 13, also shows some behind-the-scenes footage and the United Kingdom natives goofing around. In the Docomo trailer, a commercial for a mobile phone operator in Japan, the five singers talk about the days when "life was simple."

"A few years ago life was simple," Styles confessed. "I actually liked school but just didn't like homework."

"We'd all hang out at the park, like typical British teens," Tomlinson added. "Three years ago I was a standard guy...I kept my head down in class...far from it, I tried to."

Malik followed with, "My friends mean a lot to me."

Payne said he would play "a little bit of basketball" and confessed, "To be fair, when I was a kid, I wasn't very fashionable."

Horan came in with the motivational conclusion, telling fans, "Believe in yourself and follow your dreams, I guess."

One Direction is taking some time off before they begin rehearsals for their 2014 summer concert tour.

Payne had 1D fans panicking over the weekend when a Twitter picture showed him standing on the edge of a sky-high balcony. He addressed the incident and apologized for his actions via the same social networking site on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

"You may have seen a photo of me today taken on top of a building. I regret being there and having a photo taken," Payne, 20, tweeted. "It was a stupid and irresponsible thing to do. I am sorry, and do not endorse any fans trying to repeat this, as it is extremely dangerous."

He attended Malik's 21st birthday party that same night.
