A number of stars have been linked to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII, which is expected to be released in December 20145.

It's rumored that actors from the original film -- Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher -- will reprise their roles as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, respectively. 

BuzzSugar posted a list on Monday, Jan. 13, of what actors may be snagging roles in the upcoming installment directed by J.J. Abrams.

Girls star Adam Driver has been eyed for a role and Cloud Atlas star Hugo Weaving may also be in consideration, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Stars Wars: Episode VII Cast: A Transition From TV Series To Movie?

Alex Pettyfer (I am Number Four) reportedly read for the role as Luke Skywalker's son which, according to Latino Review, Ryan Gosling is said to have turned down.

Rumoed to have a shot at taking on the movie's leading role is Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons. He is up for a second audition sometime this week, according to The Wrap

Michael Fassbender is the latest in a long-list of actors rumored to be taking part in the upcoming film, NME reported Monday, Jan. 13. Atonement's Saoirse Ronan and The Wire actor Michael B Jordan revealed they have auditioned for roles, the same report noted. Benedict Cumberbatch, who worked with Abrams on Star Trek Into Darkness, has also been linked to the film.

Abrams stepped in as director after Michael Arndt backed out of the project.  The reason for the change had to do with a difference of opinions on how the characters should be portrayed on screen, THR cited insiders saying. 

Stars Wars: Episode VII To Film This Spring?

Arndt wanted the main characters to be the children of Han, Luke and Leia. Abrams reportedly wanted to have those three characters continue as leading roles so audiences could continue to enjoy them before things change.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters Dec.18, 2015.
