With the Grammy Awards scheduled for later this month, speculation is growing as to who may snag some of the top awards.

According to reports, Lorde may be poised to topple competitors and take home some big trophies.

According to USA Today, the 17-year-old newcomer could win for Best Pop Vocal Album or Best Pop Solo Performance because younger artists are becoming more noticeable.

"In recent years, the Recording Academy voting base has leaned toward younger, newer artists or at least people who are exploding and seem to be career artists," Billboard senior correspondent Phil Gallo said. "And Royals is the smartest of the bunch."

Grammy analyst Paul Grein also has confidence in Lorde's music; he believes the singer has what it takes to win for both record and song.

"Royals is a classy record that has some of the adult-alternative appeal of Adele's Rolling in the Deep, which won in both categories two years ago," Grein said.

Gallo believes the award for the best song should go to P!nk's Just Give Me a Reason, but he says it's a "tough call" against Royals.

"It's a tossup between that and Royals," Gallo said. "I wish I could say Same Love should be the favorite, but I wonder if it has a resonance the way their other records do."

Lorde's Grammy nominations for 2014 include Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and Song of the Year.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be on January 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
