Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in the Smallville TV series, discussed the idea of reprising the role in the highly anticipated Man of Steel 2.

In an interview with Media Mikes, Rosenbaum was asked about whether or not he would be interested in returning to play Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2, a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman.

"The fans have been unbelievable. They've tweeted me, I've tweeted back...I've been to conventions and they always ask me, 'Would you do it?' And I'm not an idiot, of course I'd do it," he confirmed. "I'd love to do it. But I think Joaquin Phoenix is probably gonna do it or somebody."

Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor for seven seasons on Smallville next to Tom Welling's Superman. The actor addressed the fact that there might be some bias against having the "TV Lex Luthor" play him again on the big screen.

"Obviously, I think I could play the role. I would do it in a heartbeat, but I don't hold my breath because I know there's the stigma, 'He was the TV Smallville Lex Luthor.' I say that sarcastically, but I think it's a shame," he admitted. "If people like the role and what I did with it, then they should consider it. But I'm not the director. I'm not the producer. Long story short, I'd do it in a f-ing heartbeat."

Warner Bros. has not made any official casting announcements regarding the Lex Luthor character in Man of Steel 2, despite filming being just weeks away.
