So convinced was Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg that a Golden Globe was out of his reach that the comedian hit the drinks early and didn't bother preparing a speech.

Star of Fox's freshman cop-comedy, Samberg walked away from last week's Golden Globe Awards flushed with success after snagging Best Actor for a TV Series - Comedy or Musical. Up against such comedy heavyweights as Michael J. Fox, Jim Parsons, Jason Bateman, and Don Cheadle, the Saturday Night Live alum didn't believe he stood a chance.

"It's exciting, I'm still kind of in a state of shock about it. I really did not expect to win nor be nominated," Samberg explained Tuesday night on the Late Show With David Letterman. "I think, for anyone who saw the Golden Globes, the one thing I felt good about was that no one suspected I was faking being surprised. It was a genuine train wreck...I was so sure that I was not going to win that I just went and, you know, started drinking."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine normally airs on Tuesdays, but the series will also broadcast an episode directly following this year's Super Bowl, during which Samberg will be rooting for the Denver Broncos.

"I'm from the Bay Area so I'm a big [San Francisco] 49ers fan and it was tough this weekend," the actor said of his team's recent loss to the Seattle Seahawks. "I'm not too plussed with the Seattle franchise after lass weekend. It was tough, you know. As far as I'm concerned, the Seattle Seahawks can get bent...they can go to H. As far as I'm concerned, the Seattle Seahawks can eat soup...I'm P.O.-ed and they can chop wood."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox. To hear what Samberg thinks of the upcoming football match, click the video below.
