New York Yankees fans are surely on cloud nine after learning that their ball club landed 25-year-old Japanese import Masahiro Tanaka on Wednesday morning, as the pitching phenom has reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $155 million dollar deal the don the pinstripes.

While Tanaka doesn't have the same personality as Texas Rangers all-star Yu Darvish, who posed nude  in magazine spreads and rocked an orange mane, Japan Times writer Jason Coskrey seems to think that he's also not yet at the pitching level of the hurler either.

"Darvish is a better pitcher, right now. Darvish is bigger, he's stronger, he's got more of a variety of pitches," he told Sports Illustrated.

While Coskrey pointed out that Tanaka still has to prove himself on a Major League mound, he did have no qualms about acknowledging his abilities.

"Is [Tanaka] worth $100 million? I think he is. You look at his track record, it's as impressive as Darvish's coming out of Japan. His stuff, his talent, will translate," he added.

Although Coskrey clearly had his hesitations, Japanese baseball writer Jim Allen begged to differ on the comparison between Darvish and Tanaka. Allen is a longtime reporter based in Tokyo, who witnessed other famous Japanese throwers such as Hideo Nomo, Hideki Irabu, Dice K and Darvish.

"I think he's better than Darvish, He's the best pitcher that's been in Japan, not in terms of stuff--there were other pitchers who were probably as good--but in terms of athleticism, physical build, and mental makeup, there's never been such a complete package, he said.

Tanaka comes to the Bronx Bombers off a season in Japan where he compiled a 24-0 record along with a 1.27 ERA for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2013, leading the team to a Japanese Series title.
