Supernatural’s Misha Collins will be spending some time in the director’s chair for episode 17.

Collins, who plays Castiel in the hit CW series, announced last year that he would be stepping behind the camera during season 9 but was unsure when his directorial debut would take place. A new behind-the-scenes photo from crewmember Tara Larsen recently informed fans that the actor has started to prepare for his new job.

“We have a very over eager new director at #supernatural,” Larsen captioned the pic (see above).

While Collins spends most of his time on set dealing with the problems of heaven and hell and healing the Winchester brothers, the actor has quickly realized there are a multitude of extra details that need to be considered when directing.

“I was amazed by how much you have to think about as a director,” Collins told The Examiner. “As an actor you don’t have to think about much at all, as it turns out. It’s very easy. And then when you step into the director’s role, there’s this whole universe of stuff that you have to pay attention to that’s amazing to me. I’ve been on sets for 13 years, and there was so much stuff that I never knew about.”

However, there is one detail most other directors don’t have to worry about that Collins must be wary of – what ever prank Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) have in store for him.

“I intend to have a lot of fun,” Padalecki told Give Me My Remote during the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. “Jensen and I have already started talking about [it]. We have to do something epic…our thinking caps are on.”
