Lana Del Rey's dark cover of Once Upon A Dream from Disney's Sleeping Beauty premiered on Sunday along with a new trailer for Maleficent at the Grammy Awards.

Del Rey's rendition fits perfectly with the tone of the film, which stars Angelina Jolie as the Mistress of All Evil.

Jolie reportedly handpicked the singer to perform the lead single from the soundtrack, according to sources.

"Angelina has been incredibly active in all aspects of the movie, even bagging a role for her daughter Vivienne, so it's no surprise that she helped choose who would sing the song," a source told The Daily Mail. "Angelina and the film's producers think Lana is perfect to breathe new life into an old classic."

The 38-year-old actress plays the villainess who terrorizes Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) in the upcoming reboot of Disney's classic animated film.

In the trailer, Jolie wears a cape and a horned headdress as she gives her wicked gift to the newborn princess.

"There is evil in this world, hatred and revenge," Jolie's character says.

The mother of six explained what prompted her to take on the role while promoting the film last August.

"The nice thing about joining the Disney family is... We've all been fans since we were little kids and it is this magical world and it's a happy world," Jolie told IGN"As a mother there is something very nice knowing that you can take your kids to a Disney film and you know it has something good for them in it."

She also spoke about her feelings on the evil role and said, "When I got the chance to play her I was very, very excited but very nervous."

Maleficent, directed by Robert Stromberg, comes to theaters on May 30.
