The Grammy for Best New Artist is one of the most coveted awards in the music industry, and Sunday night's awards elected another music act to the select group.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won the 2014 Grammy for Best New Artist, becoming the first rapping act to win the award since 1993's Arrested Development. 

Over the years, the Grammy for Best New Artist has gone to a variety of music acts, including pop singers, bands as well as non-mainstream talents.

Since 2000, some of the bands that have taken home the Best New Artist trophy are Evanescence in 2004, Maroon 5 in 2005, Zac Brown Band in 2010 and most recently fun. in 2013.

The award has gone to several female pop artists since 2000 as well. Such singers include Christina Aguilera in 2000, Carrie Underwood in 2007, Amy Winehouse in 2008 and Adele in 2009.

R&B has been represented as well, with the likes of Alicia Keys and John Legend winning in 2002 and 2006, respectively.

Many quieter, singer-songwriter acts have won over the years. Such winners include Shelby Lynne in 2001, Norah Jones won in 2003, Esperanza Spalding in 2011 and Bon Iver in 2012.
