Fans will see how Joel and Julia are handling their separation when Parenthood returns in February.

Judging by previews, it will be a difficult situation for the pair to deal with. In one scene, Joel takes their two kids for the weekend and Julia begins to feel alone. She's seen almost in tears on her bed.

"It feels empty. It sounds empty," she tells her sister Sarah.

In an attempt to comfort Julia, Sarah replies, "It won't always be this way."

In a December episode, Julia confessed to Joel that Ed kissed her. The news angered her husband beyond belief. Yet, Julia attempted to ease his anger by telling him, "From my point of view it was nothing." But, her words don't make him feel any better.

"Why would you think that is nothing?" Joel says before he storms out of the room.

In a later episode, Joel told Julia that he's decided to move out and they eventually break the news to their children who are distraught by their father's decision.

"You know your mom and I have been fighting a lot lately. I know you've picked up on that and we don't want to be those kinds of parents," Joel told the kids. "So your mom and I were thinking that it would be best if I moved out for just a little while."

Yet, Erika Christensen, who plays Julia, recently spoke with Parade magazine about the turmoil and said she believes they can overcome it.

"They've got ten years of a loving relationship under their belts and, in the interest of their children and everything, I think they can," she said about Joel and Julia.

Parenthood returns to NBC on Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. EST.
