The co-creators of Once Upon a Time recently addressed questions about the curse that wiped out Storybrooke in the season 3 winter finale.

Once co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke with TV Guide this week and commented on what the curse means to the show's various characters.

"Anyone not from this world went back to where they were from," he said, to which Kitsis added: "Except for Emma [Jennifer Morrison], who was the savior. She was a special exception."

Despite the curse wiping out Storybrooke, all of deaths that occurred there over the course of three years are still legitimate deaths. In other words, no one is coming back from the dead.

"Everything that happened in those three years actually happened. It's not that anything was undone," Horowitz explained. "All the events of the time in Storybrooke are real and occurred and affected the characters. The only difference is that Emma doesn't have memories of it."
