Actress Gabrielle Union stopped by The Arsenio Hall Show Monday night and explained why she demanded that her fiancé, Dwyane Wade sign a prenup.

"For this marriage, the biggest difference between this and the last marriage will be a prenup, at my insistence," Union told Arsenio. "When you have your own stuff, you don't need to worry about anybody else's stuff... The reality is, I've never seen Dwyane balance a check book, so I got to protect my stuff."

"It's the wave of the future," the Being Mary Jane actress said, laughing. "Protecting your stuff."

Wade made headlines late last year after news broke that he conceived a son with his baby mama Aja Metoyer back in February, when he and Union were on a "break." According to Wade, the baby, whose name is Xavier Zechariah Wade was conceived during a time of love.

"In our time apart, in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son who was born healthy," Wade said at the time when the news first broke.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, Union opened up about the support she's received since announcing her engagement.

"For everyone who's kind of given up, and is maybe a little older and it's the second time around, I think everyone kind of feels like it's their wedding and we're all in this together," she explained.

Though Union has been criticized for staying with Wade throughout his baby mama drama, she said no one is perfect, including herself . She was previously married to retired NFL star, Chris Howard.

"I'm divorced, so I've made a ton of bad decisions in relationships," she said.
