Smirnoff sat down with Good Morning America this week and revealed her decision to freeze her eggs in the hope of one day becoming a mother.

"It's natural for a woman to want to be a mother," she explained. "My profession is dancing. I've been concentrating on my career for a long time and I love what I do, but I know I want to be a mother."

Bruce Jenner & Other Celebs Set to Compete in Season 18?

The 34-year-old dancer made the decision to freeze her eggs on the heels of recent births from fellow DWTS pros Edyta Sliwinska and Anna Trebunskaya.

Smirnoff has competed as a professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars every year since season 3, only sitting out in season 10. She won the Mirrorball Trophy once with partner J.R. Martinez in season 13 and placed second with Mario Lopez in season 3 and Corbin Bleu in season 17.

The decision to freeze her eggs was not an easy one for Smirnoff, she admitted.

"It's scary, but it's something that - you know you're doing it for yourself. You feel empowered by the fact that you were able to give yourself an opportunity to not have to worry about your biological clock," she concluded.

Smirnoff's decision suggests that she is getting ready to compete in the upcoming 18th season of Dancing With the Stars. The new season premieres Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
