While Teresa and Joe Giudice prepare for their high profile fraud case, their daughter, Gia, has broken her silence after coming under fire for saying a gay slur via Twitter.

Teresa Giudice Asks For Sooner Hearing?

The 13-year-old reality star told Star magazine, "People took it as a gay slur. I would never think that way. It was a mistake to joke, but that's not what I meant. So that's hard, and I feel awful. I have to take responsibilities for my actions because I am always in the public eye."

Gia came under controversy when she responded to a tweet that read" I miss texting you everyday." Gia wrote, "who's this chick u little f----t"

Her father revealed back in 2012 that he grew up saying words like that.

It looks like Gia caught on because her recent controversy isn't the first time she's publicly used questionable language on social media.

In May of 2013 she posted a tweet full of slang that represents bad language.

"Omg...My mom played softball. #lmfao" meaning "laughing my f-----g a-- off"

In that instance, Teresa stepped in and joked with her daughter about her language. She wrote, "Don't say "f"! It's lmao for you. Wait don't say "a" either. How about lmbo?"

Gia obviously didn't make her mom's "scolding" very seriously.

She responded, "Uh hu mom whatever floats your boat."

Teresa's family is certainly going through lots in the public eye right now as she and Joe are up against 41 counts of fraud.

During a recent interview with ABC News, Teresa confessed that Gia, who is the oldest of she and Joe's four daughters, knows something is going on, but isn't sure exactly what.

"You know, we say, "Mommy and daddy, you know, have a legal team that's handling it."
