It was recently announced that new characters would be added to the next season of Downton Abbey, and some new information about one of the characters has been revealed.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Richard E. Grant would make an appearance on the show as Simon Bricker. He will be a guest of the Crawleys, who will enter a world that he's familiar with. According to the publication, his character is supposed to strike similarities to the character he played in Gosford Park.
Other characters in the next season will include Lady Anstruther played by Anna Chancellor (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and a Russian refugee played by Rade Sherbedgia (Eyes Wide Shut).
Gareth Neame, the executive producer on the series, recently revealed his excitement for the next season.
"We are delighted to welcome these talented actors to the world of Downton," Neame said. "The characters they play are set to bring yet more excitement and intrigue to the show."
Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton also revealed that she's eager about the new characters coming on board.
"We look forward to introducing these new characters to our Masterpiece audience," Eaton said.
The fourth season finale will air on Feb. 23 where it looks like Edith's baby will be revealed although the mom will likely not be happy about it. Paul Giamatti's character is also supposed to reveal a connection with one of the servants.
The fifth season of Downton Abbey is set to premiere in January 2015 on PBS.
