Survivor host Jeff Probst recently discussed the possibility of bringing back one of the show's more polarizing twists: Redemption Island.

Which Survivor: Cagayan Cast Member Will Win the $1 Million?

While Redemption Island will not be featured in Survivor: Cagayan, the upcoming 28th season of the reality-competition series, the twist may come back in future seasons. The twist, which involves eliminated players competing in duels for a second chance of getting back into the game, was most recently used in Survivor: Blood vs. Water.

Probst talked to Entertainment Weekly recently about bringing Redemption Island back for another season.

Cast Set To "Pour Both Blood And Sweat" Into Early Challenges Of Season 28?

"I think Blood vs. Water was the best use of Redemption Island, and if we do Blood vs. Water again we would most likely do Redemption Island again and probably wouldn't use it otherwise," says Probst. "But I really can't say for certain, because my opinion has not changed. I still like elements of Redemption Island."

Redemption Island has been used on three seasons of Survivor: season 22 (Survivor: Redemption Island), season 23 (Survivor: South Pacific) and fall 2013's season 27 (Survivor: Blood vs. Water). Probst added that he knows why some fans hate the twist.

"It's not that I don't like the purity of Survivor without Redemption Island. I love it!" he said. "I love the finality of somebody being voted off. I love it! But both can exist. I can also love Redemption Island. I'm baffled by people who want to strangle me because I like Redemption Island. That's like saying I like brunette women, but I also find blond women attractive. Both can exist! So I like both! But I will concede that Blood vs, Water was the perfect time to use Redemption, because that format that happened at Redemption Island allowed so much spark to happen. That was perfect."

Probst has previously confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he and his fellow producers were preparing for another Blood vs. Water season in the future. The season could come around soon, considering the host tweeted in October asking potential applicants to prepare a Survivor audition tape with a loved one.

In the mean time, Survivor: Cagayan premieres Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
