As the cast and crew of How I Met Your Mother wraps filming their final episode, one important cast member has been MIA, prompting speculation that his character may not be present in some of the show's final scenes.

Ted Meets The Mother In The Series Finale?

Jason Segel, who has portrayed Marshall Eriksen on the series for all nine seasons, wrapped his scenes earlier than everyone else, and has since headed to Michigan to film a movie, according to Carter Matt.

Though specific plot points for the show's finale episode are so far still being kept secret, having Segel's character finish early may not bode well for the on-screen marriage between Marshall and Lily (Alyson Hannigan). The last time the two were featured together in an episode, they were fighting about Marshall taking a position as a judge in New York, despite the couple's plans to move to Italy for Lily's work. If Segel wrapped things up early, it could potentially mean the couple will briefly split once again.

Final Line Of Series Will Be Said By 'HIMYD' Character?

Regardless of how the story wraps for the two characters, it is clear Segel's presence has been missed on set since his departure. Josh Radnor, who plays Ted, and series co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas all tweeted about him on his last day.

"I love Jason Segel," Radnor wrote Feb. 21.

"Just wrapped Jason Segel. There is no truer gentleman. Boy, did we hit the jackpot with him. Godspeed Marshall," Bays added to the actor's praise.

Thomas also added to the accolades for the actor's final night, writing "Jason Segel's last #HIMYM scene tonight. It has been an honor to work with a man so talented and kind. We are lucky."

In other HIMYM news, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale will be reprising her role as Robin's younger sister Katie in the episode titled Vesuvius, which will also feature Chris Kattan reprising his previous role of "Jed Mosby" as well.

It is currently unclear if Hale's Pretty Little Liars co-star Ashley Benson would be reprising her role as Barney's half-sister in final episodes of the show as well.

How I Met Your Mother returns with the first of its last six episodes tonight, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. on CBS. Watch a preview below.
