Ashanti is back and ready to share her new music with the world. The 33-year-old singer launched her solo career over a decade ago under Murder Inc, and now she is returning from her six-year musical hiatus with her new album Braveheart.

After her long time deal with Murder Inc dissolved, Ashanti focused on acting with recurring roles on Lifetime's Army Wives and other projects. At the time of her split from her former record label, she could not discuss what happened due to various sticky legal situations and shaky personal relations within the crew.

Now she feels brave enough to speak on it all, including her unshaken loyalty to her former label mates. "It was very obvious that I rode 'til the wheels fell off," she revealed. "It was hard because the love was genuine. We went through good things, we went through bad things... I still consider them family."

The New York native described her first album since 2008 as more truthful than she has ever been before. "Every record comes from a real place and I feel like again, this was my opportunity to be brave enough to be honest. I am very vulnerable and very sincere on the album," she said. "I have to give."

Most of the album is said to be inspired by her on-and-off relationship with rapper, Nelly. Since 2008, the two were often spotted out together cuddling and holding hands but they rarely addressed their relationship publicly. They reportedly split in 2013, and Ashanti finally spoke a bit about what happened between them during her interview. "When a man is hurt... I feel like men deal with hurt differently... There were a lot of things said and done publicly that should not have been."

During their time apart, Nelly publicly dated model and actress Tae Heckard, but Ashanti seemed unfazed by their short-lived relationship revealing, "I'm very smart and I know him, and I knew what the facade was." She also updated Charlamange, Angela Yee and DJ Envy on the current status of their relationship, simply saying, "You know, are we cool? Yea."

It looks like fans will have to listen to BraveHeart to see what really happened between the two. Download the album on iTunes, available now.
