The publication also features a striking picture of the actress with her daughter, Vivienne, who plays Princess Aurora as a child.

In her interview -- which spans various subjects from the film to her recent masectomy -- the 38-year-old actress suggests that people universally seemed to agree that she would be percect for playing the part of the Maleficent.

"It is really funny when people say you'd be obvious for a great villain," she said.

The film is essentially a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the antagonist, Maleficent. Jolie plays the female villain who casts a curse on the king's daughter Aurora, who is portrayed by Elle Fanning. In this take on the fairytale, some empathy is shown toward Maleficent as she is shown as a complex character who had reason to seek vengeance and was not always evil.

"The exercise wasn't how can we have fun with a villain?" Jolie said. "It was: What turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?"

Jolie also spoke about her masectomy and women's health issues and being overwhelmed by all the support she got.

"Wherever I go, usually I run into women and we talk about health issues, women's issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer. I've talked to men about their daughters' and wives' health. It makes me feel closer to other people who deal with the same things and have either lost their parents or are considering surgeries or wondering about their children," she said. "I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people."

Maleficent hits theaters on May 30.
