Molly, Mrs. Hudson & Other Characters To Return In Season 4?

Additionally, Gatiss was asked about the future of the show and how long they see it on the air for. However, his ultimate response was a bit of good news and bad news for Sherlock fans.

"The idea of growing older with it would be great. But it is hard to get everyone back together, because they have become extremely famous -- except for us," he quipped.

Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, and Martin Freeman, who plays Watson, have both become international movie stars. Cumberbatch has played villainous roles in a number of big blockbusters, including Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the latter of which happens to star Freeman.

Gatiss revealed that with each passing season, "It's about keeping it new," particularly new characters and plot lines as well as "Sherlock's gradual humanization."

Sherlock season 4 is expected to air three new episodes in 2016.
