Doctor Who will kick off season 8 with a new Doctor, but will the series also be premiering a new Master?

As far as Sylvester McCoy (Seventh Doctor) knows, the answer is yes.

McCoy was a guest at last weekend's Newcastle Film and Comic Con, and the former Time Lord allegedly confirmed the Master's suspected return and hinted that he knows who will take on role.

Following McCoy's statements, convention attendees took to Twitter to spread the news.

"Just back from Newcastle Film and Comic Con, lads. Sylvester McCoy told the audience he knew who had been cast as the new Master. #NFCC," wrote Chris Beattie.

The Master's return is quite significant considering he hasn't been seen on Doctor Who since David Tennant's send off special, "The End of Time: Part 2." Although the Master escaped the Time War once, he threw himself back into the fray to keep Gallifrey from breaking through to the present day (see video below).

However, since the War Doctor (John Hurt), the Tenth Doctor (Tennant) and the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) may have potentially saved Gallifrey from the Time War during the "Day of the Doctor," the Master could technically be alive and well once more.

If the Master does return, Doctor Who TV has stated Charles Dance could take the role while The Mirror has reported that Steve John Shepherd could take it.

It looks like fans will have to until Doctor Who returns later this year in order to find out more.
