The competition on American Idol is about to get even more intense since the final contestants were announced on Thursday.

The X Factor USA Gets Cancelled

On Wednesday night, the finalists sang their hearts out to snag a spot in the Top 10 and to avoid being the one sent home. Host Ryan Seacrest revealed the bottom three last night - Sam Woolf, Majesty Rose and Ben Briley.

"It doesn't make sense to me, based on the performances last night," Jennifer Lopez said of the results. "I think America was responding to what they saw."

Woolf and Rose were safe, leaving Briley as the contestant with the least votes.

He performed Stars by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals for a chance to be saved but Lopez and the other two judges -- Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban -- decided to let the Tennessee native go.

After his departure, Briley posed for a group shot with the rest of the Idol contestants and uploaded it on Instagram.

"Really gonna miss my family away from home. These are some of the most talented people I know," he wrote as the caption.

During the episode, Connick, Jr. also performed two of his hits, One Fine Day and Come By Me. Hip-hop musician Mali Music also took the stage to perform his track Beautiful.

As for next week, the remaining contestants on the Fox show will take on songs from the Billboard Top 10 charts.
