Dean Winchester is not having a particularly good year on Supernatural, and it may cause him to do something drastic.

Will Castiel Save Dean Winchester From The Mark Of Cain On 'Supernatural'

The elder Winchester's plan to save his brother may have kept Sam (Jared Padalecki) in the land of the living, but the fallout has created a decisive rift between the hunters. With his fraternal relationship in shambles, Kevin's death weighing on his conscience, and the Mark of Cain muddling his morality, Dean (Jensen Ackles) is looking down a long, dark tunnel.

"He's not real thrilled about his life, and whether or not that's going to result in something devastating, I don't know," Ackles explained to Entertainment Weekly. "Right now, it's pretty bleak in Dean world."

While Ackles worries that Dean's emotional state could have some devastating effects, that could be what the brothers need to get their relationship back on track. According to Ackles, there is still a chance for reconciliation.

"Is it too late? I don't think it's too late. I think it's going to be a question of how do they find it and when it's gonna come and what it's gonna take for these guys to sort of lay down the arms as it were and come back together," Ackles told Buddy TV. "I think...this rupture is a little bit deeper [than others]. Some things that were said and done cut a little deeper this time. They might not know and they might not see it, but I don't think it's ever too late."
