The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug lost to The Hunger Games in terms of profitability, in a recent analysis done by Deadline.

The film and television publication pitted the two films against each other as part of its process to ascertain the "Most Valuable Blockbuster of 2013."

The final eight films in the list went neck to neck to figure out which ones would make it to the next level. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug lost out to The Hunger Games in this round of the battle.

Well, while this competition seemed to have only taken international and national box office profits into account, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug might still have some profits to rake in as it is about to hit Blu-Ray and DVD. The film was also just made available for streaming on iTunes.

A special collector's edition of the DVD and Blu-ray for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is also scheduled to release on April 8.

The film will be available in a variety of packages which will also feature a limited collector's edition set for $105.43, a Blu-ray 3-D combo pack for $44.95, a Blu-ray combo pack for $35.99 and a 2-disc DVD special edition for $28.98. 

Only 25,000 pieces of the collector's edition will be available in the U.S. and will include two Gates of Erebor replica bookends and a theatrical version of the film in 3-D high-definition, high-definition and standard definition.
