Rumors are continuing to circulate on who is set to star in Iron Man 4 if Robert Downey, Jr. doesn't come back, assuming the movie even gets made at all.

Robert Downey, Jr. Replaced With Another Actor?

On Tuesday, The Edge had an interview with the original Iron Man, Downey Jr., who discussed how it would work for audiences if more Marvel movies were to be made. According to the actor, if Iron Man 4 becomes official, then it's likely that the filmmakers will want to find someone younger.

"The smart money is you have to look at everybody's age," Downey, Jr. said. "I'll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they've got to start over and get somebody young. I'm not there with them yet."

The actor then pointed out that the reason for a younger actor is likely because there would be a better relation to younger audiences.

"It really is the closest thing to being a beloved contract player with a big old-timey studio that there is right now," Downey, Jr. said. "When you really think about it at the end of the day, these films are entertainment largely driven by young folks. There is something very honorable about that."

The Iron Man star then talked about Avengers: Age of Ultron and how that will definitely be a film to look forward to.

"This one is a very ambitious sequel. If you read it, it's dense, it's smart," Downey, Jr. said. "Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy."
