One of the more famous actors who starred in Man of Steel will not be returning for the highly anticipated sequel in 2016.

Russell Crowe, who portrayed Kal-El/Superman's (Henry Cavill) father Jor-El in Man of Steel, recently revealed that he would not be returning for Man of Steel 2, a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman.

"I don't think they're going to use me again," the Oscar-winning Gladiator actor told Yahoo! Movies while promotion his new movie Noah. "I think they're jumping onto a different stream . . . You know, they're going with the different superhero worlds colliding."

Man of Steel 2 will feature the return of many of the original movie's actors. In addition to Cavill's return as Superman, the movie will feature Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

The anticipated sequel will mostly feature new actors to the Superman franchise, most notably Ben Affleck, who is making his debut appearance as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Gal Gadot will be in a supporting role as Wonder Woman, the first big screen depiction of the iconic superhero.

Other actors joining the franchise include Jesse Eisenberg as Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's butler.

There has not been an announcement that Man of Steel 2 has even begun filming yet, so more casting news could be coming soon with production loosely scheduled for summer 2014.

Man of Steel 2 is scheduled for release in theaters on May 6, 2016.
