As excited as Marvel fans are to see wheat the Joss Whedon has in store of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Earth's mightiest heroes are even more stoked to work under the beloved writer/director.

'Age Of Ultron' Gives Major Role To Hawkeye?

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator delivered an instant hit with 2012's Avengers, and the cast of the upcoming sequel is busy assuring fans that Whedon's sequel will be just as monumental.

"This one is a very ambitious sequel," explained Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), according to Variety. "If you read it, it's dense, it's smart. Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy."

Dead Body Found On 'Avengers 2' Set?

Whedon became that 'smart guy' by knowing what it takes to connect with the audience. Famous for saying, "Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke," the scribe knows how to tug at viewers emotions without throwing them into a dark pit of despair.

He also has his finger on the pulse of the superhero world.

"Joss writes from a fanboy perspective," said Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), according to Total Film. "He has an intimate understanding of comic books, genre and what makes them work."

Find out if the Marvel cast's implicit trust in their director is warranted when The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
