Could the Trickster/Archangel Gabriel be returning to Supernatural? The answer, for now, appears to be no.

Although the archangel was killed off during season 5's "Hammer of the Gods," no one is ever truly dead on Supernatural and rumors of Gabriel's (Richard Speight Jr.) possible return reached a fever pitch over the weekend after a fan alleged that the actor was back on set.

"The Trickster Richard Speight Jr is back in Vancouver for some more #SPN love," a fan tweeted on Saturday.

However, Speight quickly quelled the growing fan fervor via his own Twitter account on Sunday.

"As far as I know, there are no future plans to bring me back," Speight wrote that there are no "present plans either, unfortunately."

Supernatural is currently in the midst of filming for episode 22 (tentatively titled "Stairway to Heaven") with director Guy Norman Bee. While Season 9's penultimate episode is already bringing back Tessa the Reaper, the closer the Winchesters move toward Heaven, the more likely Gabriel's alleged return could become.

Meanwhile, a left-field theory has emerged regarding Gabriel and Metatron (Curtis Armstrong). Misha Collins (Castiel) previously told The Huffington Post that a new actor will soon play Metatron and there is now a (purely speculative) theory that this actor could be Speight.

Do you think Gabriel will return during season 9? Tell us in the poll below!

Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
