The Life with Archie series is a follow-up of the Archie comics and looks at Archie Andrews' future as a responsible adult. Interestingly, two storylines run parallel in every issue. For instance, in one issue fans get to see how his life would be if he was married to Veronica, in the other what it would be like if he married Betty.

In the #36 issue, which will hit stands on July 16, Archie Andrews will die while trying to save the life of a friend. The 37th issue will be the last issue in the series. John Goldwater, CEO of the Archie comics, spoke with CNN about Archie's tragic end on April 8.

When asked why they decided to kill the main character of the series, Goldwater said it seemed only natural. Then he went on to talk about how Archie would die.

"Archie dies as he lived -- heroically. He dies saving the life of a friend, and does it in his usual selfless way," he said. "Archie has always been a representation of us -- the best of us. Our strengths and our faults."

While the CEO is bracing himself for the fan reaction he is not too nervous.

"We expect some level of shock, outrage and surprise -- followed by understanding," he said. "As a company, we are not afraid to take risks. We're not scared to shake things up to draw attention to the great stories we're building here at Archie."
