Coney Island held the 2012 "Mermaid Parade" was held today in Coney Island New York characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes and various sea creatures.
This year marked the 30th anniversary of the event and more than half a million people were expected to attend.

Comedian Jackie Martling and actress Anabella Sciorra ("The Sopranos") joined as King Neptune and Queen Mermaid for the festival which celebrates the summer season.
