It's official - Guardians of the Galaxy will have a clear connection to Avengers 3.

Director James Gunn let the news slip while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, and the revelations has fans wondering if Thanos will be serve as the major bridge between the two disparate franchises.

"We're definitely connected to Avengers 3," Gunn told Entertainment Weekly (via ComicBook.com), although Gunn then toed the Marvel line an kept any other major details a secret.

Thanos, who was introduced at the end of 2012's The Avengers, has long been believed to the connective tissue between the galactic adventure and the earth-bound Avengers. While Gunn has emphasized that Guardians main baddie, Ronan (Lee Pace), works for Thanos, it is unknown if the overarching villain will appear in the August film.

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president of production, has also stated that Guardians will spawn multiple dangers to Earth despite its far-off setting.

"It couldn't be more distant in geography to the other films. 99% of this movie takes place on the other side of the galaxy," Feige explained in an AMC Q&A session. "Nevermind the themes and character interaction... there are a handful of characters you'll see in this movie who will carry through to other films as threats to Earth."
