With the infrastructure of SHIELD in shambles and enemies in every direction, however, it is Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team that is left to pick up the pieces.

"We've always said that the movies are about the big, giant crushing of buildings, and our television show is the opportunity to tell the stories of the people whose buildings are being crushed," said SHIELD Executive Producer Maurissa Tancharoen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Well, it's safe to say that Coulson's building was thoroughly crushed. With a team member seemingly lost to HYDRA and Colonel Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) hot on his tail, what's next for Marvel's everyday hero?

"One of the things that's fun for us is that we're writing a heroic character in a world of antiheroes and serial killer heroes and dirty cop killer heroes," said executive producer Jeff Bell, according to Entertainment Weekly. "It's sort of fun to write an honorable man who's trying to do the right honorable thing in a corrupt and terrible world, watching him struggle with the deceit around him and watching him try to do the right thing."
