Despite the initial reports that actress Amanda Bynes was hospitalized last year due to a dual diagnosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, her mother is now revealing that her troubling behavior was only attributed to her marijuana use.

Amanda Bynes Doing 'Extremely Well?'

"Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever," Lynn Bynes told E! News April 9. "She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar."

In fact, she says, Amanda's behaviors in 2012 and 2013 that were considered eratic, including tossing a bong out of a Manhattan apartment window and various bizarre social media postings on Twittter, can be attributed to the actress' use of marijuana.

Amanda Bynes Was 'Never Diagnosed With Schizophrenia?'

"Amanda is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana," Lynn added.

However, according to TMZ, Lynn is in denial about her daughter's state and claims that there is overwhelming evidence supporting a diagnosis of both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The website states that the actress was placed on an LPS hold when she was initially admitted to a California psychiatric hospital last July. According to California law, a person can only be placed on such a hold when they are considered to be "gravely disabled" due to a mental disorder or impaired judgment from chronic alcoholism. Sources also allegedly told TMX that while Amanda was in a Ventura psychiatric hospital, she was given a specific drug cocktail meant to treat schizophrenia, and told doctors about someone she called "Bad Amanda", mimicked an exorcism and began biting herself.

They also pointed out that her lawyers in both California and New York successfully won delays in her criminal cases due to claims of a mental illness.

For now, Bynes remains off medications, and has allegedly been free of marijuana for nine months.
