The fans have spoken, and one of the most prestigious awards given out at the MTV Movie Awards has gone to Jennifer Lawrence.

Lawrence beat out fellow nominees Amy Adams for American Hustle, Jennifer Aniston for We're the Millers, Sandra Bullock for Gravity, and Lupita N'Yongo for 12 Years a Slave for the Best Female Performance Award for her work in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards April 13 in Los Angeles.

Previous winners of the award include Lawrence for The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook, Kristen Stewart for Twilight, Ellen Page for Juno, and Lindsay Lohan for Mean Girls.

Amy Adams was previously nominated for her American Hustle role at this year's Academy Awards and BAFTAs. She won a Golden Globe for the role. She has also previously been an additional four-time Oscar and Golden Globe nominee. Previous MTV Movie award nominations include Best Fight in 2011 for The Fighter, and Best Female Performer, Best Comedic Performance and Best Kiss for 2007's Enchanted.

Jennifer Aniston is a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy winning actress and multiple nominee. She won an MTV Movie Award in 2012 for Best On-Screen Dirtbag in Horrible Bosses, and was nominated in 2011 for Best Female Performance for Just Go With It, and in 2004 for Best Kiss in Bruce Almighty and Best Dance Sequence in Along Came Polly.

Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar winning actress who has two additional nominations. She is also a two-time Golden Globe winner and four-time MTV Movie Awards winner. She won both Best Female Performance and Best Kiss with Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, and Best Female Performance and Best Fight for The Hunger Games in 2012. Previous MTV Movie nominations include Best Kiss and Best Hero in 2012 and Best Musical Moment and Best On-Screen Duo in 2013.

Sandra Bullock is also an Oscar winning actress who was previously nominated for her role in Gravity for an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA. She has won several MTV Movie Awards, including Best On-Screen Duo, Most Desirable Female and Best Female Performance for Speed in 1995, and the MTV Generation Award in 2010. She has also been nominated for Best Kiss in Speed, Best Female Performance in While You Were Sleeping, A Time To Kill, and The Blind Side, Most Desirable Female in While You Were Sleeping and The Net, Best Kiss and Best Comedic Performance in 2010 for The Proposal.

Lupita N'Yongo is a newcomer on the scene, but beat several other actresses at this year's Oscar ceremony and won the Best Supporting Actress Award for 12 Years a Slave.
